Thumbs up BEST ALBUM OF 2007: Burial - Untrue

What an incredible album this is. What awesome production and brilliant editing.

This album is a melting pot of so many styles but evokes emotion and musical genius in every track.

From the awesome opener 'Archangel' with it's 'pseudo 2-step/ambient/dub/breaks' sound you know you are in for a treat.

The album progresses with more technically sound drum breaks and bleeps but most of all holds true to the album title with a bleak, surreal, almost futuristic emotion taking you through the album on what feels like a real journey through some bizarre grey futureworld.

Listen to this album anywhere and everywhere. I especially recommend it with a good set of headphones for quiet, thoughtful listening. You'll understand what I mean when you listen to it, and hopefully appreciate it the same way I have.

For those persuing my favored method of listening to this album, start out with a couple of the opening tracks then after a few puffs on a bit of weed, skip to the track 'Shell Of Light'. This is an absolutely extraordinary track. Sheer and utter brilliance. Almost has an old-skool ambient vibe to it. I can't think of an ambient-esque track I've enjoyed as much since 'Duck! Asteroid' on the magnificent album Last Train To Lhasa by Banco de Gaia. Maybe it's the weed talking in that sense, but those old enough to know the scene back in the day will catch my drift. It's a 'stoned memories track'. Get it yet?

It's going to take several more listens I think to fully appreciate it but I'm up for putting in the effort, heck I'm pretty much on the way, it's not left my iPod in forever!

This is a masterpiece. Get it now, roll up an enormous hoofter and just enjoy it.

Score: 10/10 - possibly the best album of 2007.

Ok, it's bugging the shit out of me. If anyone has got this album yet, please for the love of God tell me where that female "love you so" vocal sample is from on the track 'Shell Of Light'.

Early ravers should recognize it. What's it from? I'm thinking it's a Micky Finn, MdeeEm, Hackney Hardcore or Zero G track, probably wrong though.

Argh!!!

cuntface

I have the Burial - South London Boroughs EP which is pretty fucking nice. I heard some of his newer stuff and it just sounds like all the other dubstep out there.

Shall have to get that, i'm going to get Burial - Burial too.

I get your point about his sound, but I think this album is so much more than that. Especially from an emotional perspective.

'Shell Of Light' is a work of genius. That old school vocal mixed with the excellent drum track and synths makes the hairs on your neck stand on end. Absolutely masterful track, nothing else released this year I feel comes even remotely close to it.

Don't think i've been this struck by a single track since 'I Understand You' on Charles Webster's debut album Born On The 24th Of July. Now THAT is a legendary track too.

I think one of the few albums that manages to fit ALMOST in the same league of excellence for 2007 is the excellent 'Battles - Mirrored' (the track 'Leyendecker' on it is absolute magic) from the mighty folk at Warp.

This album though, I feel, is just on a whole other level. I can not sing it's praises enough. It really is just brilliant.

...and now I've just cum.

One more thing: if u like it so much so do urself a favor and listen to: RZA-Instrumental_Experience-2007-FTD
The one who did the "Ghost Dog" OST, sampled many times in Burial first album.... RZA also released Afro Samourai anime soundtrack: a very kill billed inspired anime (Actually RZA was a Quentin Tarentino music adviser during KB producing..) Burial is just so prefect...

PS: The Finishing Game soundtrack is now available on ITunes Store... but this is another topic

According to Jonathan King, who's lawyer made a statement this afternoon saying he was round your house last night, you had it on mute because and I quote "he (you) wanted to concentrate"...

Again according to Jonathan King's lawyers statement, it wasn't your hard-on, you just pretended it was and used the long end of a Dyson to hit the mute button, instead in the throws of bumming you thought you hit the mute button on the stereo but you hit the mute button the tv that had a DVD on of twink suffocation porn.

I have this on vinyl, brilliant tune.

My favourite track off the Burial album would have to be "Dog Shelter" though, a truly excellent album.

You got I Understand You on vinyl?

Cool. It's such an awesome track, so is the whole album.

I like the remix album too, Remixed On The 24th Of July.

Charles Webster is rather cool.
