AWRITE FANNY BAWS ?

broadband works phone calls dont

I was wondering if any of you guys could help here.
I have a BT line and my broadband is working although at about a 5th of the usual speed but I cannot receive calls or make calls.

I thought maybe a wire had come loose or the box itself got damaged so I went out and bought a new master socket and a krone tool but still the same thing happens.

When the phone rings I pick it up but it still rings at the other end.I tested this with my mobile and could hear it.

I contacted BT and they are quoting me £119 for a callout and £90 an hour to fix it.

Don't know how the fuck they can justify this and I dont want to give them the satisfaction if its something that can be easily fixed.

I on't know what has happened as its been fine for years.

Please help me out if you can.
Thanks in advance

yeah checked the filters.
Plugging a phone directly in still gives same results.Phone line just not working.
Tried different phone too.
Tried googling it and found out it could be the exchange.
Its a pain in the arse I tell you

Do you have a dialling tone ?

Had the same sort of problem last week , with virgin media though. Turned out they came to fit a phone line for my neighbour and fucked mine up.

AWRITE FANNY BAWS ?

Yeah Your right man.Its got to be their problem surely.
The thing that gets me is that I pay a BT line rental so that should mean because I'm renting the line from them they should be liable to fix it.
Gonna get on the blower tomorrow to them.
Cheers for the quick responses guys

Firstly have you tried plugging your phone + a second handset into the test socket? (its the socket found behind the front plate) if this fails theres a good chance its a BT fault and not your own of which you wont be charged however they will still advise you of these charges if the line tests ok which also means an engineer will come to the house you say youve changed the main socket I would strongly advise you change it back openreach can charge you for this even if it was not the problem from the symptoms you have listed it sounds like your fault is on the local network which is covered by your line rental

Scarfacejosh... Can you explain how/why the robbing cunts can justify charging me £125 for a line to be installed when it only took the shithouse about 15mins to do it and it didn't require ANY drilling or wiring to be done (the apartments are already wired-up, they just require connecting at the local exchange). You can't explain? No, I thought not... This isn't your fault, it's because they're all bastards

just to update here.It was a fault with them not myself. The BT guy came out this morning and it was a problem further up the road.I wasn't in at the time but I'm going to write them a letter and see what I can get out of the cunts for this inconvenience.

Mine was "technically" a new line, not a reconnect... But these apartments are new and have been pre-wired to make phone line installs a 10 minute job for BT. But BT are theiving skanks so you pay a flat fee for a line install irrespective of the conditions - basically I've subsidised some cunt who lives up a mountain to have their line installed

Alas, this time around I'm in a non-cabled area (although it's available just around the corner)... Otherwise we wouldn't have even had the discussion, I'd be a Virgin customer.

Simple,

In this era, a phone line is looked at as a necessity, mostly everyone needs one, and therefor they will charge as much as they want, knowing they will still get the business.

Of course you knew this but still asked the question didn't you Mr. NS the rhetoric. lol.
