I'm trying to help a friend fix a laptop that he says is infected with sasser. It won't even boot up it's so bad I'm told. I have yet to touch it.

Is there a bootable antivirus app or something else that will get rid of it or at least allow it to boot? Won't boot in safe mode either I'm told. I'm just looking for some direction on where to start.


Hoping this is an easy fix.

Go into the darkest, sweatiest corners of the Internet and find "Hiren's Boot CD" - there's plenty of stuff on there including anti-virus stuff. Another option is to shove the HD into another PC as a second drive and scan it from there...

... Chances are though, you should just use either option to recover what you can off it because the install is probably completely fucked

I've still got an old Amiga disk with the "Saddam" virus on it... I might infect my emulator for shits n giggles

I wonder if there's ever been an instance of an old virus cunting up some poor sods emulated software? If the emulation is robust enough, it should be easy.

Damn, now I want to try it!
