Bitter, miserable twat.

Poll for our S Yorks members

For Neversoft and Lord Crump - and anyone else who regularly drives on this section of the M1:

E.ON have today announced that the famous twin cooling towers at Tinsley are to be demolished in the early hours of Sunday, 24th August.

I will be a little sad to see them go, to be honest (the view from my office window will be different next month).

Voting for Protesters stop the demolition at the last minute because the protesters in that area will have had good practice when they protested against them being built in the first place.

On a side note, I hate Protesters

and

Leicesters cooling towers are better

I like to move it move it

They might be building a whippet factory.

why not leave them there? As you say, they are a popular (albeit not very sightly) landmark with everyone now.

Admin?

Giving any sort of importance to a pair of 70 year old cooling towers makes us look like a bunch of fucking morons from the middle ages. It's embarassing.

I'll be honest guys, maybe I'm ignorant* but I've lived within 15 miles of those things for a large portion of my life and I didn't think there was anything "special" about them... It's a pair of fucking cooling towers, not Stonehenge.

*Fuck off

Bitter, miserable twat.

While I wouldn't go so far as to say they are part of Sheffield's industrial heritage (where were these guys when the steel mills were being pulled down), I do think they are a notable landmark.

In the many times I've driven on the M1 through Yorkshire, they've always been a feature to break the monotony of motorway driving.

Any southerners who regularly drive on the M40 probably feel the same when they pass through the Chiltern cutting.

So I'll miss them - just like I miss the Fylingdales golf balls.

And I'll be cursing E.ON if the motorway is still closed on Tuesday morning.

Bitter, miserable twat.

Though I doubt anyone's interested, the towers came down last week. Vids are probably on Youtube.

According to the Sky News fuckwits the demolition was "botched"; a second blast was required (it wasn't) and the motorway was not expected to reopen for the rest of the day (it re-opened at 6:00 p.m.).

In reality, there was a slight hitch in that part of the northern tower was left standing for an hour or two after the initial blast, but it eventually collapsed in on itself, and the rest was brought down with some long-reach excavators.

Protesters didn't stand a chance, at least according to the account I heard of a Swampy-type character getting dragged across Meadowhall car park (and hopefully getting a good kicking afterwards) by security guards.
