Well, let's see... I posted a comment to this thread somewhat earlier this week, but I guess us noobs aren't allowed to make off-topic remarks. Maybe something a little more on-topic will make it through this time...
I've downloaded both the Dreamlight and Cartier DVDR releases. I don't have the original, so I don't really have a base reference point for these releases to judge quality by.
I ran both releases through BitRate Viewer -- here's the results:
Dreamlight-
Bitrate (peak, avg): 7020, 4027
Q. level (peak, avg): 13.35, 1.87
Cartier-
Bitrate (peak, avg): 8248, 4055
Q. level (peak, avg): 8.65, 1.72
As a rough measure of quality, some would say that the lower quantization levels offered by the Cartier release would make it the better encode of the two. Further, that peak hit of 13.35 by Dreamlight's encode might be also be considered as not so good.
In reality, the average Q. levels are pretty low (which is good) and they're almost the same between the two releases. So most people probably wouldn't be able to discern any real visible difference between the two.
But I don't have a high-def TV, so what do I know?
I burned the Cartier release. I give it a:
V:8.5
A:10
M:8
