Ok i haven't really bothered with hd dvd bar 1, so cant really comment on that too much, but i have been playing with bd (blue ray) a lot more

I have messed with the following mainly to test and see my pc's capabilities

A View from Space - with Heavenly Music (2006) HDDVD 1080p AC3 (8 Audio)

IMAX Fighter.Pilot.Operation.Red.Flag.1080p.BluRay.DTS

IMAX.Wolves.1999.720p.BluRay.x264

IMAX - SANTA V's SNOWMAN 720p.BluRay.x264

1st with a pentium 4 3.0 with 4 gig of ram dual channel (only shows as 3.25gig) Radeon x800SE, with windows xp and service pack 3 and cccp codec (search online easy to find) plays mkv files through windows media player and others

2nd with a Intel® Core™ 2 Duo E6600 Processor (2.40GHz,1066MHz,4MB cache) 8 gig ram 800mhz dual channel, 1GB Nvidia GeForce 7950G GX2 (2xDVI, 1xS-Video) Output again using the cccp codec and running vista home ultimate x64 with sp1


The pentium 4 plays 720 and x264 through a external hdd and through internal sata-2 but when it came to the 1080p films it runs into problems (stutters and drags and the sound is also choppy), this is either due to the pc or xp 32bit, i can't be really sure which at present


The dell xps plays everything fine specially the 1080p films like the dark knight and deja vu both big files (over 25 gig each) no picture pausing or stuttering also it plays the x264 without any problems whatsoever

Now the 64 bit picture looks like 1080p picture quality in pictures and normal dvd's and when you spend a couple of hours playing with it i finally can say i prefure it more than xp


I haven't really bothered with x264 mainly because of the fact it's just a temp gap till the full films are released which includes the extras etc same as normal dvd's now

I have noticed over the past month or 2 that they are really pushing blue ray a lot more with director's cut and special edition and unrated versions, and as what happened with the vhs to dvd transfer is now going on with the dvd to blue ray
Will add some more on this as i go along

Also if you want DTS audio now you invariably have to buy the Blu-Ray version and (arguably) a new A-V receiver to match
