ok, so its well n truly here now and that ^ is one i will deffo get on day of release.
Man o fuckin man ive been waiting for a watchmen movie since the dam 80s.

But this thread isnt really about that.
Im talking about bluray flicks in general.

i refuse to buy a standard dvd now, and all movie i pay for now are on them bluray doofers.
i own a few not many, but strangely enough the best one i have is an old one.

Starship Troopers.

WTF how can an old ass movie (good one mind you) have such class pic and audio?

whats the most surprising bluray you've got?

surprising dew to wicked transfer to hi def or surprising dew to 'why the fuck did they bother'

and what bluray are you waiting most for?

off the top of my head im holding out for the BTTF Trilogy.

Arf, what if Watchmen sucks? 300 fucking sucked.

Let's hope this one is good, because it looks fucking wicked.

I've only watched one true Blu-ray movie which was Beetlejuice. It looked decent, nothing spectacular.

Some of the better rips I've seen would have to be Iron Man which was amazing in HD. My bro has the Blu-ray disk of Iron Man, I should compare the two.

I've watched a bunch of nice flicks in HD recently, even flicks you wouldn't think transfer over well were great (I actually realized seth rogan was in donnie darko watching it in 1080p).

On another note, who thinks all this 'bluray live' shit sucks balls, and are mostly horrid gimmicky features that piss all over what could be fun features? Just my two cents.

Nobody's mentioned yet that almost all Blu-Ray players are region-locked. There's a company in Peterborough, UK selling unlocked Panasonic players but I don't know if the Panny is any good to begin with?

Well i got a top of the range(4 or so yrs ago) panasonic dvd player amazing for original dvds (region 1 and region 2) and changeable by flick of a switch, but when u play back ups it can be a right pain in the ass depending on dye and brand of blank dvd, but a cheap alba make plays everything .
I know the sony players have region hacks with the remote or you can buy a little gadget that will unlock your blue ray player ebay sells em i believe.

So don't expect the region locks to be much when blue ray is going full steam (money to be made unlocking etc)
The blue ray films i have currently are all region free unlocked as i think most of the protection are on the menu or the files that come with the vob files hence no menu's etc as of YET!!!!

They probably cleaned all the negatives and scanned them at 2K or 4K.

Going to have to jump on the HD-DVD wagon there... Matrix, Bourne, even Mission Impossible. The only shit HD-DVD I have is Return to House on Haunted Hill, and that's really just because the movie itself is diabolical.

As for Blu-Rays, I guess Casino Royale, Day Watch/Night Watch and Pan's Labyrinth do it justice. The Terminator films look like VHS to me, and they didn't do that good a job with Halloween or Evil Dead II either. Even the reissue of The Fifth Element looked wanky.

pjeer?

I've not seen the Blu-Ray, although I intend to at some point, but the remaster of The Warriors is fantastic. The comic book sections aren't to everyone's liking (altho I dig em), but the quality of the print is sublime.

When you're used to a 4x3 crop transfer on TV that makes it look ancient, the new copy makes it look brand new. Brilliant film too.

Pho

Hey Pho have u seen the fanedit version of The Warriors?

Director Walter Hill has publicly stated that he hates the television footage. In fact none of the TV footage was even placed as an extra on the newer dir’s cut dvd edition. My goal was to restore every bit of extra footage that appears in the television version back into the superior first edition (not that BS dirs cut) of the film. I placed the extra footage in the film exactly to where it was in the TV version. No rearranging of scenes of any kind (except for the bathroom scene which was a different edit on the TV version).

Original Runtime: 93 mins
New Runtime: 100mins (107mins, TV footage was time compressed)
