is there any way to get better quality out of an xvid when you burn it using any type of software? i use convertx but it still leaves a good amount of pixelation usually.

You could do a multi-pass with cce&d2sroba this will give you a better encode than whatever convertx uses.
Although you'll need a copy of cce.
The source is what matters, 700/1400MB rips are outdated. If you're converting a 700MB rip to dvd and watching it on a 46" plasma, then it's going to look like shit, get the dvdr instead.

PS, I can't believe the tdx 2009 rules are sticking to cd sizes, what year are we in?

Doh! Misunderstood the original post.

Early versions of TMPGEnc are very good for converting XviDs to DVD.

going from a low bitrate format to a high bitrate format usually doesnt look good. CCE and the likes will give you better than average results but in the end you are still trying to make lead into gold.

Yeah Valve I TOTALLY agree, man, couldn't have said it better myself. It sucks becuase the xvids/divx are so common and i feel like the dvdr's are much harder to find.

when using convert x select the high quality option from the encoding tab, usually gets rid of the pixellation .

yeah its on the slowest encode, highest quality and slowest burn speed, but theres only so much you can do with some rips i guess. i use 16:9 aspect if that makes any difference. its a great app though, burns just about anything.
