Patching 360 Games to play on older FW

I have 2 360 units. One is a banned machine which has a pretty old firmware on it. I haven't used it much recently but having been reading on a few forums i've read that if you want to play fairly recent backups, you need to patch the game.

I'm fine with that, and have the Xbox 360 wave 3 patch for old firmware software but do I patch ALL new games? Is there a list that states what games require patching and those that don't?

If I just patch every game, will it bork the ones that didn't require patching?

That is all.....

Not all new games are wave 3 that I know of, but the majority are. Just look for a wave 3 compatibilty list or something. Or just upgrade to 1.6x, not hard.

I wouldn't have the first clue about updating the FW. A friend of mine did it, but he's since died of an anal fissure**.

I'll have a look-see on google for a Wave 3 list. Many thanks

**This is a lie

Yeah no problem. All you need for flashing is a SATA Card (VIA6421) or a computer with a VIA chipset.

Just an update on this.

Despite what EVERY cunt out there likes to have you believe, you don't need iXtreme 1.5/1.6 to play Wave 3 games.

Once I had offline updated my 360 to NXE, I'm able to play Wave 3 on my 2 year old Xtreme 5.2 FW without patching the backup.

You ONLY have to update if you're using stealth FW (iXtreme 1.0 onwards), and if you have a banned console why the fuck would you do that....
