Thumbs up Review: Ghost World (2001)

Ghost World review by Queen Latifah

This movie is weird. With a captial 'W'. But don't let that put you off for this, is a movie of intense excellentness. A movie you can't afford to miss.

Enid (Thora Birch) and her friend Rebecca (Scarlett Johansson) are your typical kooky teenagers. Having just graduated high school, both girls can finally plan their 7th grade dream of moving in together for the Summer before college. Everything seems to be going as it should until a prank changes both of their lives.

Glancing through a lonely hearts ad, Enid decides to play a trick on a guy named Seymour (Steve Buscemi) by calling him to arrange a date at her 'favourite' diner. She doesn't turn up. Instead, Enid, Rebecca and their friend Josh (Brad Renfro) go to the diner to watch the cruel prank being played out. It is then that Enid and Rebecca decide to follow Seymour to find out more about him. Rebecca loses interest but Enid is curious to find out more...

This movie is strange in the fact that by the time the final credits appeared, both myself and my friend agreed that we loved the movie, but couldn't explain why. Strange, no other movie has ever made me do that.

The acting, score, plot and camerawork are all fantastic and so far above par this movie is putting eagles well before the 18th hole. I can't recommend this movie enough. If your in to something completely different from anything else you've seen, watch this movie. This is a sure fire rip-roaring success of a movie. See it.

Final Rating: 10/10

Yikes!

Mystic, to advance my belief that we may been separated at birth, I submit for your approval....

I saw Ghost World in the theatre about a year or so ago. It got a small release, so by the time it made it to my town it was a little older I guess. I loved it. It's based on a graphic novel, that unlike alot of graphic novels, had a real live story. Also, it was directed by Terry Zwigoff(sp?) who is the same guy that did the scary and quirky documentary "R. Crumb". (Another one to check out if you haven't seen it)

I think the movie is playing on HBO this month. At least, I watched again it there a few weeks ago. It's most def. worth checking out if you haven't seen it. Hell, go rent it if you have to.

LOL, that's real weird!

I loved this movie so much that i've just ordered a copy of the DVD, a huge one-sheet movie poster and a copy of the graphic novel. It really is that good a movie.

I still can't put my finger on why i liked this movie. My friend and i watched it last night and both of us said the same thing, it's awesome, but we have absolutely no idea why! LOL.
