The Armageddon Factor

The quest is nearly over: the Doctor needs only to find the Sixth Segment of
the Key to Time. It seems to be located on Atrios, a planet locked in all-out
nuclear war with its' neighbour, Zeos. But how far is the Doctor prepared to
go to complete his mission? And agents of the Black Guardian have been hunting
for the Key, too...
NOTE: Six episodes.
Our only encounter with the peculiar Cockney Time Lord technician Drax,
apparently a freelance engineer. (He owes his accent to a brief spell in
Brixton Prison, London.) He insists on calling the Doctor 'Thete', a
reference to his academy code-name Theta Sigma.
Having gained the enmity of the Black Guardian by the story's close, the
Doctor fits a randomising device to the TARDIS, effectively rendering it
unsteerable - on the principle that if he doesn't know where he's going,
then neither will anyone else and so he'll be safe from any traps laid by
his enemy. (But see also Season Twenty's Mawdryn Undead et al.)
Mary Tamm's final appearance as Romana. By the time the next story was
recorded she was visibly pregnant and so a handover scene was not really
viable. John Leeson took a break from providing K9's voice throughout the
next season.
Lalla Ward would appear as a regular from the next story (albeit as a
different character). She later described Armageddon Factor as 'the longest
audition in history'.
