°ÛÛÛÛ°²ÛÛ° this rumor. NO they did not use our °ÛÛ²°ÛÛÛÛ°
ßÛÛÛ°±Û XviD to encode their SVCD, they used Û±°ÛÛÛß
ÛÛÛ±²Û the DVD just like we did! However they Û²±ÛÛÛ
²°ÛÛÛ± still deserve the *NUKE*. Here's why.. ±ÛÛÛ°²
Û²±ßÛÛÛ ÛÛÛß±²Û
²ÛÛ Û²Û * CCE 2-PASS: They used a 2-pass method Û²Û ÛÛ²
ÛÛ Û²Û± with CCE to encode their video. The ±Û²Û ÛÛ
ÛÛÛ ÜÛÛÛ SVCD rules clearly state CCE requires ÛÛÛÜ ÛÛÛ
°ÛÛÛÛ°²ÛÛ° a 4-pass minimum. They used a 2-pass °ÛÛ²°ÛÛÛÛ°
ßÛÛÛ°±Û just to save time and quickly get a Û±°ÛÛÛß
ÛÛÛ±²Û release out, quality took a back-seat. Û²±ÛÛÛ
²°ÛÛÛ± Our release has a CCE 6-pass! w00t! ±ÛÛÛ°²

²ÛÛ Û²Û * OVERSIZED MAX VIDEO BITRATE: The SVCD Û²Û ÛÛ²
ÛÛ Û²Û± rules specify the max bitrate as 2450 ±Û²Û ÛÛ
ÛÛÛ ÜÛÛÛ HafVCD used a 2530 minimum bitrate & ÛÛÛÜ ÛÛÛ
°ÛÛÛÛ°²ÛÛ° a minimum bitrate of 300. This might °ÛÛ²°ÛÛÛÛ°
ßÛÛÛ°±Û cause problems with some DVD Players. Û±°ÛÛÛß
ÛÛÛ±²Û Û²±ÛÛÛ
²°ÛÛÛ± * SIMPLE RESIZE SUCKS: We here at SONiC ±ÛÛÛ°²
Û²±ßÛÛÛ use the best quality resize for SVCD. ÛÛÛß±²Û
²ÛÛ Û²Û HafVCD used a 'Simple Resize'. Why? Û²Û ÛÛ²
ÛÛ Û²Û± Well once again they were concerned ±Û²Û ÛÛ
ÛÛÛ ÜÛÛÛ about encoding time, not quality. ÛÛÛÜ ÛÛÛ
°ÛÛÛÛ°²ÛÛ° 'Simple Resize' encodes much faster. °ÛÛ²°ÛÛÛÛ°
ßÛÛÛ°±Û But as you all saw, it gives crappy Û±°ÛÛÛß

Û²±ßÛÛÛ * NO 3:2 PULLDOWN USED: They also seem ÛÛÛß±²Û
²ÛÛ Û²Û to have skipped a 3:2 pulldown. This Û²Û ÛÛ²
ÛÛ Û²Û± must be used on NTSC material that ±Û²Û ÛÛ
ÛÛÛ ÜÛÛÛ was originally 24fps to create the ÛÛÛÜ ÛÛÛ
°ÛÛÛÛ°²ÛÛ° standard 29.97fps for NTSC TV. HafVCD °ÛÛ²°ÛÛÛÛ°
ßÛÛÛ°±Û did an IVTC, but no pulldown. Lamers. Û±°ÛÛÛß
