411 Productions, in conjunction with the Skatepark of
Tampa, is proud to announce the release of Tampa Pro
2003. For the first time in its history, the staff at
the S.P.O.T. took complete creative control and filmed,
edited and produced the video in-house. This year's
video has the raw feel that could only be created by
the crew that put on the Tampa Pro contest.
Sometimes the charm of the Tampa contest is more about
what is happening off of the street course as opposed to
on it. With the decadence of Ybor City beckoning, the
yearly trod of professional skaters that appear usually
end up partaking in the party atmosphere. This year's
installment of the Tampa Pro video does a superb job
capturing the going-ons of the skaters and their
entourages when they're focused more on the girls and
the construction of beer can pyramids, than the
skateboarding at hand.
Not to be overshadowed by alcohol consumption, the contest
skateboarding that takes place at Tampa is second to none,
and 2003 was no exception. Amazing skateboarding occurred
in both the vert and street competitions, respectively.
From Jake Brown's amazing hippie jumps in and out of the
channel on the S.P.O.T. vert ramp, to TNT's flawless final
run, the entire weekend was jam-packed with action at
the park as well. The video staff was there to capture
everything, even the industry contest, where Mic-E Reyes
made a fan out of hundreds of kids that probably weren't
alive the last time he skated a contest. Wearing a suit
and carrying a briefcase, Mic-E was, as always, the life
of the party. The vert contest brought out some of the
current best pros, and Sandro Dias went bonkers once again
with his insane 540 variations spanning the entire
width of the ramp.
In the end though, it's the street contest that drives the
kids in droves every single year to deal with the heat and
humidity inside S.P.O.T., and they are never disappointed.
TNT proved once again that he is one of the premiere
all-around skateboarders in the world with an amazingly fast
and stylish final run. Rodil Jr. wowed the crowed with a
switch f/s smith down the big rail. Javier Sarmiento,
Steve Nesser, Ryan Sheckler, and others all faired well,
but it was TNT that came up triumphant, richer, and more
beer soaked than the rest.
Tampa Pro 2003 also marks the first time the contest
has been available on DVD - bonuses and everything!
You won't want to miss the three angles of the now
infamous poor-sport skater chucking his third place
trophy into the crowd. If you listen carefully, you can hear
a fan claim "that's a career destroyer right there".
Tampa Pro, never forgettable, and always necessary.
