The storyline for the third film finds Blade joining
forces with two vampire hunters, part of a group
called the Nightstalkers, as they tackle the powerful
and ruthless villain Danica Talos. After harvesting
the superior blood of the ancestor of all modern
vampires, Talos has resurrected the man now known as
"Drake" (notice the modernization of the Dracula name)
from a century-long sleep in the hopes of finally
getting world control for all vampires. Blade, along
with the Nightstalkers must unleash a virus that will
kill all vamps-- but only are given one chance to make
it work.

Centropy made a rather newbish mistake on this one.
This DVD contains both the Unrated and Theatrical
versions of the movie within the same VTS. The first
PGC contains the Unrated version and the second PGC
contains the Theatrical version. Instead of splitting
the disc up by PGC (or even vobid would have worked in
this case) they encoded the full VTS which includes all
the VOB IDs from both the Theatrical and the Unrated
versions of the movie. What does this mean? Well in
the case of this particular DVD it means that the
first 122 minutes of the SVCD is the Unrated version
of the movie. The remaining 42 minutes are random
scenes from the Theatrical version. Hence there is
42 minutes of rather useless footage taking up space
and reducing the average bitrate subtantially. Centropy
managed to obtain 1762 kbps average on 3 x 80 minute
CDRs. This average corresponds with our own calculations
of what the average would be if you encoded all 11 VOB
IDs instead of just VOB ID 1 or PGC 1.
Having encoded this movie the proper way we found that
we were able to obtain either 2240kbps average or 2446
kbps average depending on whether or not we used 74
minute or 80 minute CDRs. Being that 2446kbps is
awefully close to the max bitrate allowed by the SVCD
specifications we opted to go with 3 x 74 in order to
avoid running into problems with CCE (it tends to crash
when the average bitrate is really close to the maximum
bitrate). Hopefully next time Centropy will do the same
and bring everyone the highest average possible on the
correct number of CDs as we have with this proper. If
not we will be back with another proper. Until next
