This release is an mkv that will play like any other
mkv. Encoded and sized to convert to a bluray image
that will fit on a DVD5 playable in bluray standalones
and PS3's unlike the other releases which require hours
of encoding, which reduces quality. We think people need
to ask themselves: What does the size of an mkv matter?
Is there any logical reason to burn an mkv? Playing
between different PC's is the only thing we can think
of.
Cropping isn't done to ensure compatibility, There
is neglible quality loss due to this. A 1280x720 black
frame at CRF 20 (pretty typical) is 16 kbps in our
tests which is neglible when you are talking about the
total average bitrate. Should the scene be cropping
DVDR to save that little bitrate and in turn means they
won't play in dvd players? We'd hope not.
The encoder is limited a little bit to ensure
compatibility. These limits are a little compression
loss but they aren't drastic at all, 5-10% in our
testing. Should XviD be using gmc, qpel and custom
matrices to get the added compression, perceived
quality which in turn means they won't play in divx
standalones? We'd hope not.
Old timers, which includes us, should know that DVDR,
DIVX\XVID and SVCD scenes have always been about
maximum compatibility while achieving the highest
possible quality, and NOT ignoring compatibility like
the 'other' x264 scene has always done.
To convert to bluray:
- extract all files to the same directory
- run mkv2bluray.bat
