I think VLC is a great all-in-one player that has almost everythign built into it. But if you got some time to setup mplayer, its more tweakable IMHO.
i use lots
bs player
power dvd
lvc
win amp
media player 10

yeah, check out the command-line switches for VLC... You can enable the advanced settings/EQ etc from the shortcut so you don't have to turn the fuckers on all the time.

sometimes with "imperfect" files VLC will just stop playing the file, only had it happen with mpegs that have some type of defunct audio stream though, so who knows. When played in media player classic it plays a slight "beep" and then continues on its way, really dont really notice it unless you know when to expect it. So, that's what i do, media player class + videolan, both no install necessary, both sexy
i don't watch video's on my computer. even though i have a 19 in. monitor, i use my standalone. i have the hacked version of windows classic so i can watch online news and such no mater if it's quicktime ,realone or wmv files. but i also keep the latest vlc for checking out particaly downloaded files to see if i want them or not. found out here on this forum that i can click on a rar. and vlc will play it.that alone makes it a must have player. think vlc will do the same as WC but it's configured to play multi. streams and if it works why change it?

VLC and mplayer. mplayer is especially sweet for converting movies for iPod Photo.
as much as i like VLC, i found its playback quality with some HDTV .TS files wasn't as good as i was getting with other programs, BUT it is more efficient and its very nice.

Last time I used VLC the user interface was too "clunky" for my liking.
E.g.:
Want fullscreen in MPC? Press alt+enter. Want to pause? press space.
Want fullscreen in VLC? Right click, find the menu for view, click fullscreen, then drag the menu bar out of the way. Want to pause? Shit, where's the menu bar gone...
I also remember it used to crash on a fast user switch. And because it used its own decoders, you couldn't use additional directshow filters like ReClock.
Although that was a while ago, and things may have changed since then.
