-- Gas Prices (http://www.vcdhq.com/forum/showthread.php?threadid=65498)
Gas Prices
So this is currently a record setting summer for gas prices, especially in Canada where its reached over $108.4 per liter. That's the highest it's ever been and its supposed to keep climbing, I think we've seen the last of the days where prices were down around $0.90. It is becoming pretty damn expensive to drive a car.
Is the same shit happening over the border? I was just in europe and I know the prices there are insane too (except greece where everything is cheap).
When you adjust it for inflation, gas was actually more expensive in the 80s in the US. I can still remember my dad bitching about it. Damn Jimmy Carter!
-K
late 70s were very expensive, one good comparison is that when jimmy carter was presedent every one had locking gas caps,it was so expensive they were siphoning it from the cars on the street, though i drive a big van for buisness ,i drive a 2002 mr2 spyder the rest of the time,5 speed 4 cyl, great gas milage!,
well my license is suspended but i feel you, being from the USA, knowing we got lower prices than most the world for years, i think its about time we got a reality check, and well, reality check applies to everyone, this is un renewable without millions of years, so of course itll cost... wait 10 yrs without hybrid/ hydrogen cars, we are about 40 yrs from consuming all the oil in the world... i will be alive, and i like watching the news, so ill be sure to have about 200 kegs to hold me over while i watch my 24 hrs news channels taping and watching the fights over gas ... thats sounds too fun
You guys have it lucky - reported today that some stations around the UK have gone over the £1 mark for 1 litre of fuel.
£1 = $1.79 per litre
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/4133430.stm
I filled up this morning. 94.9p at the local Shell.
FUCKING HOW ANNOYING?
Car was in the dealership the other day for repairs, so i got given an 05 plate Astra CTDi estate to play with (good job they gave me an estate as i fucked off to Global Gathering for the weekend).
Naturally i thrashed the fucking bejeezus outta it. Lovely car!
Err, dunno what it has to do with fuel prices or anything but i thought i'd let you know.
Oh no i remember now, it was like 97.9p for diesel.
SHITE!
2.40 per gallon of regular this morning. Highest price I've seen in the SE USA

Fortunately i dont have to pay that because i have a company van supplied!!

If i'm getting my conversion's right Here in Ireland it's working out about $5 a gallon (1.08euro a litre).
steaknife03
yes it is bad, thank god for my Bp card
Man, it's getting tough, putting an average of 40 to 50 dollars a day everytime I work. At 2.49 per gallon, it adds up. Plus big vans suck gas, especially with dual air conditioner systems (which kill gas mileage, but with 90 degree temps, I have to keep myself and the teens cool plus the products will melt if kept in high heat for too long) so I'm feeling it. I might even have to raise the price of our products just to cover the extra expense. Which is what is going to happen to everything else, as gas prices always effect, in the long run, the price we pay for other goods and services.
Kal is right, adjusting for inflation, we still are paying less, but again, when your use to paying under a dollar for a gallon (early 80's, when I got my license at 16, it was around 80 cents), 2.50 seems to fucking high. Granted, we pay less than most other countries, but there has to be some changes made. I wish I could use a better mileage vehicle, but my business doesn't allow for it at all. I have no choice but to use gas sucking, low mileage vans.
One good thing, I can write it off my taxes, and with Speedway's reward card, I am now at my 3rd free 25 gallons of gas, which I plan on using by Friday. That's $62 worth of free gas, and I've already got over $100 worth since they started the program. And the good thing is, they don't keep their prices higher than other stations, so I'm not getting screwed by using them all the time.
By the way, for us English twats, we only understand the word "Petrol"
Gas is different!
It's defo. bad for US consumers, you guys drive huge SUVs with (as candyman said) Air con and huge engines.
The worst bit about it all is 60% of the price is tax here

hey now,
Yesterday, I paid $2.55 a gallon. Total it was around $44.
I remember about 5 years ago, gas prices were under a buck.
Just today, here in Northern B.C. Canada, regular gasoline is
97.9¢CDN/liter and people bitch and moan about the price.
But we have it ass backwards in North America. Right under the sign for 97.9¢/l there is a sign for bottled water
"2 1000ml bottles for $2"
So a dollar per liter for water is a good deal, but under a dollar a liter for gasoline isn't?
Unbelievable.

come to the UK. land of cheap motoring!
you pay for your car. then your insurance (which if you are under 25 will involve you taking out a loan the size of a 3rd world country debt just to get 3rd party insurance), then your road tax (which if you have anything over a 1400 will involve you paying tax that even racketeering groups wouldn't charge you as monthly interest).
then you have your breakdown cover, which involves having to pay for one of the better (and obviously ludicrously expensive) packages because the basic one will cover you for a guy to drive out to you, look at the car, shrug his/her shoulders and say they can't do nothing because your 3cm too far from your driveway or something equally unsexual.
then there's the joy of fuel prices. nuff said there.
then there's the joy of car maintenance where everyone in that game in the UK is basically out to rip you off for every penny you have. oh dear, my oil needs changing. £4 or something for a bottle of oil. plus £600,000 for labour.
motoring is bollocks. drive fast die young. that way you'll save yourself the expense of a life of motoring and can say at least you drove for a while. after you pass the novelty wears off when every cunt treats you like a fucking taxi.
motoring is an endless moneypit. but we all do it because cars are great! YEAH!
Well today my job paid me a little over $16 for gas, and I put $15 in my tank and that will last me a couple of days, and when I work again I will get another $16 or so for gas. I myself don't have to pay for the gas I use. My job does.
I quit the tech support job, I make better money doing what I'm doing now.
I thought this type of job was demeaning and something I would never do because I would be lowering myself to do this job, and on average I make at least $12-15 an hour. I make better money now.
fuel priceing is ridiculous and from what i have read in the news and stuff....world demand ( mostly USA and China) has pushed up prices and terrorism has too...fucking 96p for a liter here...tho i know in wales the independant garages are up to 124.9p a liter.....cunts!

Candyman, I would have paid $56.45 for that much gas.
Wife just brought me a receipt today... for $36.30 for 12.696G. That's $2.85 per gallon.
::Edit:: Yes to the L.A. question

Never have I've spent that much in one week. Hell 2 years ago that would have got me through 2 weeks or more!
i take the subway to go to work and travel around paris.
and surprisingly, subway tickets' prices haven't increased !!!
i hope people will kill each other over gas in the next few months.

I don't understand why companies have to rename everything in different countries. I still haven't got over having to call opal fruits "Starburst"
...or calling a Marathon a "Snickers" bar. Mind you, we feel quite obliged to call George Bush a complete arse instead of "Mr. President" so I suppose it's only fair.
edit: I'm more than a little drunk at the moment so, if I offended anyone with that statement, meh!
yeah I broke $50 the other day filling up my suv...i think I paid around $2.88 a gallon...fuck that I'm ready to ride my bike!!
Everyone could just do like me. Bought an 86 Mitsubishi (Dodge) pickup off moms old fogey neighbor (2.0 litre 5speed), rebuilt the engine with new clutch, built a custom Cold Air Intake and straight piped the exhaust. With a 22Gal tank, I fill that bitch up and can ride for almost 3 weeks getting around 35-40 Mpg.
Yeah it looks like a dogs ass and has NO a/c, but takes off like a scalded dog at the redlight and leaves everyone behind. It costs me much less in gas to piss off Durango drivng soccer moms who try to walk all over me.
Thinking about decaling the back window with "Crackerbox POS: 40Mpg" in gangsta script. I got less than a grand total so far in that truck.
Oh yeah, about the adjusted for inflation racket going on, I asked my moms about that. And she said "Fuck that, back in 1980 the gas price thing didn't last going on 2 fucking years."
Think about it.
Now with the high gas prices here theres a social activist group that's been wandering the streets lately looking for suv's and giving out fake traffic tickets on their windshields that say something like "you are a socially irresponsible driver, killing the environment" etc etc..
If one of those fucking hippies ever layed a hand on my car i would break it off and throw it in my gas tank.
after paying 2.70 for gas, if somebody put that shit on my car, i'd dust it for prints, find their house and blow that shit up... because its the hippies that are destroying the environment... of course

Anyways you'll eventually exchange your SUVs for normal cars because of the increasing gas prices...
and as kippa (from Europe) once said :

[14:32] (kippa-): lol
[14:32] (kippa-): thats pretty fucking cheap tbh

The latest I've heard is that people are gas stealing both from stations and from other people's cars! I have locking gas caps on all my vehicles, but if any motherfucker tried to sippon gas out of my tank, I would know that my temporary insanity plea would hold up in court the day of my murder trial. . .

I also forgot to add that
a) In essence, the average cost of living in the UK is way more than that in the US. Taking in to account costs such as council tax, vat etc etc.
b) the cost of motoring in the UK is way more than that of the US. ie: sky high insurance, road tax etc etc.
So how the fuck these Yanks sit there and complain when it's also the US, India and China that are mainly responsible for this rise in fuel prices, i don't fucking know. Fucking disgusting.

Amen
Heres what I reckon i spend on cars in a year
£160 p/y car tax
£30 MOT
£3-400 repairs/services
£20 p/w petrol
£600 insurance
= £2750
= $4 953.025 US$
Just to drive the feccing thing.
I dont even drive that much considering i spend £230 a month on commuter rail ($5000 a year).
And lets not get into the cost of the actual car. A shitty ford focus costs $18 011.
...you forgot to mention the stealth taxes.
its all still bullshit....no matter what anyone thinks about us complaining yanks....and you can all suck my prick....it is our fault....when we had the gas crisis in the 70s companies started experimenting with a mixture of alcohal and gasoline...alcohal comes from wheat which we burn and pay farmers not to grow because of abundance of crop....lobbyists for the oil companies stopped production because of market collapses from the oil companies losing profits...if we perfected it sithin 10 years we would be relying on these mid east cocksuckers less and they wouldnt have the power or the funding for all the shit they are doing anymore.....
sorry guys but we did fuck up....but blame it on the rich not the little guys

went to st louis last night to see my grandma. plus gass was 2.59 and 2.63 for reguler.
in the past plus always used to be more pricy. what happened? its a higher octane.
I just paid $1.36(AUD) per litre!
I'll do the math for you...
1 Gallon = 3.7843 Litres
1 Gallon =$5.15c !!!!!
Does anyone payt any more than that?
If so, then I feel damn sorry for you!!!

or better yet the US can invade Venezuela, SA and overthrow their pseudo Communist party and start shipping the good stuff here...
there was a news report on tv regarding how Walmart faced profit loss because their consumers *coughtrailerhickscough* have to use more of their income with rising gas costs. They're also preparing to harden laws on gas & go-ers across the states. The gov don't want to help the economy but they'll be damned if someone refuses to line their pockets!

I don't drive, but I find it getting more and more annoying about people bitching about gas prices. As previously stated, it's not that bad if you count inflation. However, these dumb ass americans driving this huge ass escalades turning up the A/C all the way isn't fuckin helping. I see people with gigantic cars bitching all the time, and it doesn't make any sense. Americans have sucked up all the gas. And before you say I'm a racist fuck, I'm an American, and when I get my car, it's a gas guzzler. And before you start complainin about it being 90 degrees(farenheit) Think about me, I'm in Arizona, the average during the afternoon is about 115, I could care less about turning the a/c on because I'm not going to waste my money on gas and drive the prices up further.

So what you guys are saying is you don’t drive and don’t pay for fuel so you're not going to bitch about it and are pissed about everyone who pays for it moaning, great stuff fuck nuts. I’m going to start moaning about people who don’t drive cars moaning about people who do.... it would make as much sense, some of us have jobs to get to where we cant walk and carry equipment.
Why the fuck have you come into this thread? Is it because you can’t drive and have the hand to eye co-ordination of a goat on crack and clicked this thread by mistake?
Or are just eco warriors on a mission to convert us all to not using our cars without understanding the irony that there are plenty of pollutants made from the construction of the PC you are using or the fact that the electricity you are using is more than likely coming from a fossil fuel...

ThugNetwork, I feel what you're goin' through.. I've got family out there. But, I'm in Philly .. 3.11 at the station right across the street.. I have a 28 gallon tank on my truck.. now it get okay mileage at 23mpg.. and I don't drive it to be stylish, but the way I live, I've gotta have something capable of hauling my shit around, but yea.. the next time I've gotta fill up, I'm gonna be look in the range of $90.. this is freakin' terrible.
Oh, no, I seriously conceed that the UK has it far worse than the US, but it's just not something I anywhere near planned for. I was paying 1.46 at the begining of the summer.
The thing that really pisses me off is that New Orleans is the fourth largest port in the US.. isn't one of the primary functions of the DoHS to prepare for disasters at such an area? I mean, be it a terrorist attack or natural disaster, there still should have been some degree of preparation seeing as we've cut funding for every other department and group in the government to "prepare for the worst". This is an ultimate and utter failure on the U.S. Government's part, thus far. I seriously hope they can prove me wrong.

Petrol is €1.079 per litre here in Ireland. I know an area manager for a major oil company here who says that in the next 6 to 12 months or less price will be the least of our worries as there is going to be a shortage worldwide and it will be rationed out to petrol stations.

My town was $1.38CAD/litre yesterday. It's extremely steep, but just be fortunate that's your only "disaster" to worry about - Things could be much worse then bitching about gas prices.
Lots of whining, if you can't afford gas you should have studied harder in school so you would have a better job and more money.
Petrol is much more expensive in the U.K so you can't moan shit, unless you actually believe that Americans have a god given right to have a better deal than anyone else in the world then you had better just start getting used to it.
It seriously doesn't help the situation when the cars driven in U.S.A have engines that would put a combine harvester to shame, try something more economical, get a better job or shut the fuck up

Lots of whining, if you can't afford gas you should have studied harder in school so you would have a better job and more money.

What those Brits and other Euro-peein's aren't admitting to is that THEIR goverment Taxes the FUCK out of their fuel to raise the costs to what they pay now. Remove all those taxes and they are pretty much on par with what we are at here.
Not to mention that their Countries are around the size of one of our average states, they get clean public transportation to anywhere important and that companies in Europe who rely on fuel as a part of their business (delivery, hauling, taxis) get tax breaks on their fuel consumption. What I drive in a day for work would allow most Englanders to do several laps around their country.
Oh, and if you are living in the Metro Atlanta area, good luck on find a station that even HAS gas to sell, don't believe the press, nearly 4 out of every 5 gas-stations I passed by over the weekend didn't have shit to sell. And until they can get that mess along the Gulf cleaned up, this will continue here in the south. Fuck.
And if you want cheap gas, goto Russia, I did the math with an online friend and they are around a buck fitty for a gallon of fuel.
I'm lovin' this.... i just bought my first car at the beginning of the summer.... good timing eh?
The whole European and Brit v American thing is tiresome and boring. Grow up kids, fuel prices affect the whole world, not just where you live.

gas prices
Gas here in New Brunswick canada 129.9 some places 139.9 a litre damn
So..... Gordon Brown is playing pass the buck. He wants the Petrol Prices down but isnt willing to lower the tax, He wants the Oil companies to reduce the price of the crude oil (so they are making less £), put more money into research (so they are making less £), set up a fund for poor contries (so they are making less £) and still keep taxes at about 50p per litre.
Is it just me, or does Gordon Brown bear a striking resemblence to Cancer-man out of X-files?

Is Gordon Brown a Politician or a dodgy-looking money-grabbing actor? You decide!!!

I'M NEVER COMING BACK TO THESE FORUMS... BOOHOOHOO
OH WAIT...I'M BACK
i think the biggest bitch we have is the rate of increase(over 4x in about a year)....we are already on modest incomes thanx to the cost of living hikes in the last decade....this last push sends us over budget no matter how much you tighten your belt....
i barely ever drive....what used to cost me 20 bux a month now shot to almost 90 with no let up in sight...this also drove up the cost of EVERYTHING.... so add it all together and the fact remains that we are getting poorer at a pace never seen before
so i know you pricks have always had high gas prices....and im sure when it rose to those prices your parents cried like little girls too...so shut the fuck up when its our turn to bitch

Also, in defence of those whining American pricks... Presumably the size of your illustrious nation and the distances between towns means you drive a hell of a lot further on average than UK peeps*
*Don't quote me on this, I made it up but it seems to make sense

quote:I was agreeing with you, you Dingleberry! For people such as yourself it's probably a massive financial burden but the reason why I was talking averages is because I suspect there's just as many people complaining about gas prices in the US but still use the car to make a 1 mile trip to the shops - they're the ones who should cut their yap because your fuel is still way cheaper.

If I drove a 145 miles (233 km) in any one direction from say London, where exactly would that put me and how much of England/Great Britain could I cover?
