V - 7 - looks interlaced and a little blocky on my plasma.

A - 8 - alright i guess.

m - 6 - not as good as the other.

Honestly, i don't really get why people say "it looks interlaced"... Of course it's interlaced, it's a standard def DVD, 480i.

V: 8.5 - Slightly pixily, but nothing to really complain about.
A: 8.0 - Pretty good.
M: 3.0 - This movie was terrible. I like the first one, second is OK, this one was terrible.

I would only suggest this movie if you have a kid. Otherwise, you're not missing much.

V - 6.0 -

rated as *retail*: bitrate and encoding quality is just BAD. They just kept EVERYTHING there is on the disc (this also includes TONs of *old* movie trailers, preview trailers, useless promotion extras, if they kept the interesting extras only it'd be fine by me but this movie probably fits untouched if you don't keep this SHITLOAD of useless extra material...)

A - 9.0

M - 7.5 - I hope it's the last Shrek movie

So many complaints, get the HD 1080p, this is dvdr, and well, the quality is DVDR.

This is good to watch on pal/ntsc tv but watching it on HD tv isn't as good. Get the 1080p and watch it on your hd tv.

Anyway about the rip, it is good but couldn't get much better.

Posted by Extractor on 10-04-2007 12:45 PM:

well, people telling 'get a FULL-HD res source if you want better quality' on this are either friends of the releasing group or being plain stupid.
I didn't rate the picture quality in comparison to a 50gb Blu-Ray 1080p picture. I did rate it for what it is DVD-R (5) rip from a RETAIL (DVD9) source.
And those don't necessarily have to be at such a low bitrate (avg video BR is actually 3415) , blurry and blocky on movement. There would have probably been a chance to have it
ripped UNTOUCHED.

Instead this release contains

- Additional audio tracks English 2.0 (!!!), French 5.1 (!), Spanish 5.1 (!)

Trailers of the following upcoming movies (~ 8 minutes):
- BEE MOVIE, KUNG FU PANDA, SPIDERWICK CHRONICLES (!)

Trailers of the following OLD movies (~5 minutes):
- Shrek 1 DVD, Shrek 2 DVD, Charlotte's Web (!!!)

Video Jukebox films of the following movies (~ 15 minutes):
- Shrek, Shrek 2, Shark Tale, Madagascar, Over the Hedge, Flushed Away (!!!)

7 Featurettes (over 60 minutes of additional video):
- Worcestershire Academy, Big green Goofs, Lost Scenes, Donkey Dance, Meet the Cast, Shrek's Guide to Parenthood, Tech of Shrek

Now how much stuff on this disc would you consider overweight? And I don't even want to know how it was ripped. Either way, the video quality has been unnecessarily degraded and even the biggest fan of extra material does not need old movie trailers or duplicate audio tracks. All this has led me to rate it "V - 6.0" and not the assumption that it could be as good as a blu-ray disc. sigh.

Even though you can get more perfect rips (DVD-R DL, hi-res rips) these days, doesn't mean all DVD-R rips can be as bad as it gets.

100% agree myself. This release is crap, and IMO you were generous even with the 6/10. Probably these guys are from this "RELiSH" group or something. Great work on the speed of the release, but 4/10 on the actual DVD quality of the release itself.

Just to make this an official VCDQ post:

V 4/10 - looks like DVD Shrink. Waiting for a better version.
A 10/10 - Well, there is sure as hell enough audio. Too bad as mentioned the other tracks are useless.

Posted by Asterisk on 10-04-2007 05:55 PM:

Did you check the bitrate for all 3 vobs Extractor?

Bitrate is under 3000kbps avg when all 3 vobs are checked (probably due to the credits in vob3) so this is nuked.

5/10/6.

Groups first DVDR release. Hopefully they'll rip all the crap from their next one. Expect a proper.

Posted by Extractor on 10-04-2007 06:05 PM:

I checked with Bitrate Viewer on the stripped video stream (1.87gb) but I guess it's inaccurate... it actually is ~2900ish.

Posted by fryguy on 10-05-2007 10:59 PM:

Checked a few rars. Yup, this is probably dvdshrinked as it's kinda blocky.

V-6
A-9
M-?

yes its just a p2p release, the original releasers dont know what they were doing and just did a one clicky... wait for a scene group to do this right... this is just like the transformers release, and the first dvd release of the new pirates movie...

5/10

Watched a sample vob from this release when it first came out, it didn't look all that bad to me. (Besides which, it's a relatively simple job to substitute the untouched movie VTS for this version). However, I mainly grabbed this release for the extras. In addition to the ones mentioned above, each of the three previews is included twice for no good reason I can think of. The trailer for Shreks 1 & 2 is a 4:3 version of the same 16x9 sequences found in the Video Jukebox section. The so-called "lost scenes" are a bit of a con as they were never part of the film to begin with. The "Tech of Shrek(2)" plays like a commercial for Hewlett-Packard and AMD. I did like seeing the voices behind the characters though. Oddly, there is no dedicated music video or trailer for this particular title but there is still tons of stuff to keep kids amused.

Rated as a *COMPLETE* rather than as a movie transfer:

9/10/9
