so perhaps the idiots above could enlighten me as to why a perfectly intact and untouched dolby digital soundtrack would warrant anything less than a 10? Rating scale of "1-10", 1 being shitty and 10 being DVD quality, how can a original DD5.1 track warrant a 9 rating? use your fucking heads eh?

Posted by llewhtork on 11-25-2006 09:46 PM:

Ever consider the above people may not have 5.1 setups? Try not to be so abusive. Also why make any comment if you're not rating the flick? Personally I'd ban your ass for flaming. Anyways....

V9 I don't own a 1080p set so so can't say if it's utterly perfect
A9 I don't own a 5.1 sound setup, so can't give it a 10
M9 One of the best films of 2006 (and I hate those USA! WOO!! YEAH!! type fims)

I only give audio a 10 if it's DTS. 5.1 gets a 9 tops. How's that for using my head eh?

Posted by Tallguy on 11-26-2006 08:36 AM:

5.1 and DTS both get a 10
if it sounds like a AM radio then it gets a 1

well its quite obvious that ol_perfesser is one of many that doesnt know how to rate..and or hasnt seen a clip of the rip ,and or hasnt read the NFO 9/9/8 even if its untouched video

9.5
10
8

No, the guy bitching about the lack of 10s is absolutely correct. The ratings aren't here to judge the studios on their sound mixing abiltities, when its a DVDR its a comparison between the release and the real thing. Now obviously its not possible for most people to do this but it is possible to use common sense. If there's a low bitrate video stream and there's artifacts because of it, the score gets lowered etc.

The only time an audio track can be scrutinized really is when there's an option of DTS on the original disc and this hasn't been included... in essence thats a fair reason for someone to lower the audio rating, but usually the video bitrate is the factor that stops these. If the original is DD5.1 and thats whats on the rip (as in most cases) as long as nothing has screwed up then the audio should be defaulted to 10 really.

right, so you tell me why, because you do not have technology good enough to view the release at its full potential, you give the release a rating based on the b grade playing capabilities of the technology you do own even though theres no way you'd know its full potential? they could make the best dvdr rip ever made in the history of the scene...but because one fag only has a B&W tv and £3.99 dvdplayer you grade them down? my fair rating (because i do have the technology to view this release at its FULL potential) is 9/10/8 (9 being because the video is not untouched, but perfectly mastered)

OK...So by your argument, if you don't have a state of the art system typically owned by ubergeeks, don't rate or pass comment. If I gave the audio a ten because the flick came with 5.1/ DTS (whatever), yet I hadn't actually heard that 5.1/DTS, how can I comment on it? That would make me a fraud as well as giving misleading comments. I comment on what comes out of my tv (3" b+w wind up thing!). The main point of the last statement was more about the abusive terms actually, for example...pHo put his point across well and sounded informed...whereas you came across like a tool.

This sound thing needs some sort of a rating guide. People simply get their audio in too many different ways.
