You can always count of Pukka for an amazing R5!

Video: Video looks spot on, of course.
Audio: In sync and direct, once again it's spot on.
Movie: Haven't finished watching it, but these two power house actors in one movie is just awesome.

Some people are saying things like, "Wait for a proper. The aspect ratio of this release is wrong. It's supposed to be 2.35:1, not 1.85:1." and in response to that, "Shot in Super 35, so any ratio from 2.4:1, 1.85:1 and 4:3 are all "correct".

Can you explain that please? I understand super35, but unless the 4:3 you mention happens to have HUGE black bars top and bottom, there is no way your comment can be correct. But yes, many 16:9 releases are simply unmatted copies of the 2:35 WS release.

No offense, but I think you are confusing the FILM's aspect ratio with the ripped avi's aspect ratio, which can include letterbox bars or sidepost bars.

Posted by Rounder98 on 09-25-2008 07:38 PM:

I saw this in the theatre when it came out, Got this release for the parents and all I have to say is what a great release so fast. I have always been a PUKKA fan, releases like this make it hard not to be

Video - 9 , ratio looks fine to me on the wide screen monitor

Audio - 9 on my shitty computer speakers, appears to be all in sync

Movie - 7 two of the best actors still alive, need I say more, unfortunately it was pretty predictable but most all movies of this genre are. Don't get me wrong it was enjoyable to watch its Def worth a watch

I didn't come up with that absurd stuff, other people from other sites did. I think what they had to say is ridiculous.

Sorry, I misread your meaning. Yes, it is quite absurd, and many people have no idea of the difference between CROPPED aspect ratio and simply WRONG aspect ratio (ie: skinnied, fattied, squashed, etc.) See, for example, another post on this page.

Which still leaves open the question: Has this release been cropped, or is it simply unmatted???? You never can tell with these R5's or 16:9 screeners of movies that claim a 2:35 WS theatre ratio. And it can get even more interesting. Mongol, for example, was released in a 16:9 R5 and a 2.35:1 retail. When I compared them, I found that the 16:9 was slightly side cropped, but unmatted for most of its vertical size. So you got MORE on the top and bottom, and LESS on the sides.

Great release of a film i actually wanted to see.

9/8/?

Both points are true.
Super35 started getting used so Widescreen stuff could be shown on a 4:3 and 16:9 TV's with no bars and little to no side cropping, as S35 has an AR of 1.65:1, the 4:3 and 1:78 versions have less cropping than the 2:4:1 versions.
Saw the same thing with R4 Rambo a few months back.

Anyway, enough geekiness, again nice release

Posted by The Punisher on 09-25-2008 09:36 PM:

Nice and early.

V: 8
A: 8
M: 7

As for the aspect ratio, it's been cropped a little at the left side and a large bit at the right side, a very very small crop at the top but has been opened a good bit at the bottom.

Posted by ambientmike on 09-25-2008 10:14 PM:

I think all they mean is that IMDB reports the AR as 2.35:1. This release is 1.85:1.

The AR is unmodified from the source so can't be nuked.

If you desperately want 2.35:1 (which may actually contain less video area) then just wait for retail.

People really shouldn't need to mention about it being in or out of sync as the audio is from the DVD and is NOT LINE.

All in all - a really good release.

Yeah, i noticed the same thing with the DVDr.

Posted by pomh on 10-03-2008 06:36 AM:

for whomever said any ratio is right, is right... just saw this in theatres and payed close attention to the top and bottom of the screen... the film presented in threatres is indeed 2.35:1, but paying close attention to this rip, it can be adjusted for those who, like me, feel they should watch this in 2.35:1 instead of this release... crop the top and bottom a certain fraction and the problem is solved... this file must have been from a negative because i've seen this before where the movie is cropped for theatres but the 4:3 is the same size only more movie on top and bottom rather than the sides cropped off, i never knew they did that... so what is shown in theatres may not always be the full picture, huh...
