Been tryin to change my avatar to a different 1 but every file i try to use says it's too big even though they are smaller than a lot of other user's any chance you can put it up for me i have attached the gif i wanna use for my avatar pretty please

ps pity the background isn't black

When you try to upload an avatar thats too big, it tells you the allowable maximum size.

User's have a max size and dimension but if you bribe an Admin we can shove whatever size we want in there. Although we still only add sensible ones otherwise the forum takes ages to load and looks like shit cos it breaks the margins etc.

1. Take a main image and using a lasso tool select the bit you need.

2. Start a new image with the correct dimensions and set its background to transparent.

3. Paste in the selection from img1, tweak to the required scale.

4. Save as gif with transparencies active, or any other format that supports it, PNG etc.

5. Power Wank.

Prefix all of the above with Get Photoshop if needed...

I use MS Publisher
it helps if the background is one colour, say white for example.
There's a icon 'make transparent' then you click on the colour in the pic you want to make transparent,
in this case white, and bobs ya uncle.

Not so good if there an exact colour 'in' the pic as that becomes transparent.

so the other suggestion is best

You can also use the magic wand in Photoshop to delete a single colour background after creating a new layer from background. This has the advantage of not affecting any other parts of the picture but didn't work with Ripper's original gif for some reason?

We can set that avatar if you want but I doubt you'll be able to switch between em cos the restrictions still apply when you try and set the skull avatar back...

I just upped the avatar limit to 150 pixels square. Unless people are still using 640x480, this shouldn't cause any major problems.

Ripper - your new avatar is 125 x 150 (I think) so you can set it yourself.
