combining video and audio from 2 diff sources

i have both releases and would like to use the audio from pot over matines video.....

i know tmpg has an audio gap correct feature but i cant get any volume on the preview...just the audio display which is a pain in the ass to work with....any better ideas?

i looked i didnt see anything for it except a demux remux ....and i would definitley need a gap correction tool no matter what i did...is there something i didnt see?

I'm certainly having images in my head of some severe audio desynch problems.

1. Demux both videos to elementary streams, discarding the unwanted ones. If in .AVI format, you can use VirtualDub to save the WAV.

2. Convert the audio stream to .WAV, if not already. I like to use WinAmp's Disk Writer Output for MPEG audio so I can apply a quick&dirty equaliser.

3. Use TMPGEncXpress 3.0 to set the audio delay to be correct for the START of the movie. On the Cut-Edit screen, use both the video window and amplitude graph together to get it right.

4. On the Set Output screen, select Wave Output, and encode the .WAV file.

5. Load the video and the new .WAV file into TMPGExpress and figure out how far out of sync the audio is at the END of the movie (assuming you got the audio delay correct in steps 3 & 4). For example, a gun fires on screen at 01:30:15,500 but the shot sound occurs at 01:30:16,750 means a 1250ms positive desync.

6. You'll need CoolEdit Pro, WaveLab, SoundForge or any other top-flight audio authoring program with a decent TIME STRETCH function. I recommend WaveLab, or CoolEdit with Resample Only & Gliding Stretch.

7. In whatever you're using (they all have their own quirks), you should see the source time and a dialogue for the required time. The required time should be the source time minus whatever the desync time was from step 5. Remember, minusing a negative produces a positive. Set it off, and frankly, hope for the best (more quirks). Save the .WAV.

8. Load up your video & the newer new .WAV file into TMPGEnc and check the sync at the end of the movie. If good, encode the file to whatever you want. If not, rant&rave, then repeat steps 5 - 7.

That sounds like too much work just to do a demux-remux thing.

Pretty much the only program I've used for this sort of thing was mpeg-vcr:

1) Join the mpegs of each source
2) Edit the beginning to the end right down to the exact frames of both sources
3) Demux each stream
4) Remux the 2 streams that you want to

If the sources are different framerates then I would use goldwave to adjust the audio.

Have done this a few times and have never had a sync issue

thanx guys......looks like this weekend i have another project of this sort...since i have mpeg-vcr already i m gonna give sportsfans advice a try first...

You view it. Open up both sources in mpeg-vcr side-by-side, and pick a reference-point-frame to start your edit. Then an end point. For example one time as a reference point I used a movie studio's logo when it began (mark-in). An end point was when a particular name came up on the end credits(mark-out). Do it for both sources obviously. You can use the left\right arrows on the keyboard to go frame by frame. For this to work though, there can't be an overlap after combining the mpegs. So if there's an overlap you have to do additional editing in order to make the transition from cd 1 to cd 2 seamless.

Also when saving, always save as vcd or svcd, not just the program stream. Cuz I've noticed demuxing streams saving the other way dont work the way it should.

I'm not sure I follow you. You talkin about audio that's muxed with mpeg 2 video. Or mpeg1 layer2 as opposed to mpeg1 layer1 audio?
