Wow... Bringing in the new year with shit already.

Now, I know. What an ungrateful bastard I am. But I don't care.

So, what is wrong you ask. The NFO says nothing about video other than "recode", which to me is usually a warning sign. Video is crap and further it is only 2.65gigs for the 100 min movie. This averages out to under 3000kbit/sec.

Then they do something I hate. They re-code the movie, but keep also 2 gigs of extras untouched. Blow me.

Perhaps I am harsh, but being nice don't get me much further.

However, I am sure this release will look just peachy on a regular CRT (which shoving 720x480 onto a 300x200 res TV I would expect nothing less). So if that's the plan, this release is fine.

Well I Want To See More Untouched Movies Instead Of CCE Encoded. But For The Movie To Be Re-Encoded And The Extra's To Be Kept Untouched Is Just Bull To Me But I've Been Waiting For A NTSC Source But The Video Quality For This Is Crap So Will Wait For A better Release(kind of like Transporter 2 dvdr's)

Transporter 2 I think was untouched unfortunately. We won't know until it comes out for sure. But Emerald usually does good jobs. That was Fox's fuck up.

But back to this. For sure! CCE is good, but there is no real evidence they even used it on this release (well, that's my fault because I didn't bother to figure out why DVDInfo didn't read the image).

Which brings me to a question most likely JoshNya will know. Can I mount the image and DVDInfo it? I got 4.5, and I mounted the 1/2 un-rared image of Flightplan, but it gave me no info. Put in a physical disc (different movie) into the drive and it worked fine...

so this must have been why the xvid rip was so shitty.
it mustve been a reencode of this reencode of another reencode.

horrible ass quality

is this r1 ws??
yes it is pretty bad :| not nuked so maybe there will be no other release but int.

People are getting a bit carried away with themselves here i feel.

Yes its pretty poor quality, though id rather watch quality like this than Transporter2, keeping all Extras untouched and a useless Spanish track is pretty silly too, but i wouldnt say the quality was horrible, just pretty bad, particularly bad on Scene changes, i can see me waiting for the DVD9 again, something ive done alot recently with the new thing of extras being kept on DVDR's.

Sound is good though, but Spanish is a waste.

6/9/?

Porco, LOL, which CRT's output 300x200 Res, or was that just you trying to use an example of how the masses will prob not notice.

Volume Name FLIGHTPLAN_CCAT
Application id
Implementation id AHEAD Nero

Nero Recode Software, definatly not CCE.

Most older (early 90's till even now) CRTs, before all the newer HDTV ready CRTs, put out 352x240, with an interlaced 352x480 using S-Video or Component. But interlacing doesn't make a higher resolution, it still is 352x240 (approx). BUT, if you have a 4:3 aspect TV, you will be using only 78% of your screen, thus pushing 720x480 onto a 352x188 pixel area of your TV. I know you're UK, so your figures are slightly higher in the vertical res (352x288 for VCD and 480 x 576 is your interlaced SVCD).

But yes, that was just an example that most people will be in heaven that intend on watching this on a standard 27". And I think that is many people here still, as big TVs really are not as cheap as they should be, plus with all the new shit coming out, it may be a while till more people have them.

Too harsh? hehe... Dunno. You seem to also agree that youdon't want this release. The DVD-9 sounds pretty good to me also, especially after I bought a boat full of DLs on Boxing Day.

This release could have been MUCH better, and I hope someone does do it. But if not, I'll wait till 24th of Jan to do it myself.

::EDIT: thanks JoshNya for the info... NERO!!! WTF! Now I heard it all.::

Posted by Redemption198 on 01-03-2006 08:22 PM:

Yeah, i thought it was something like that, though didnt know that about older CRT's, though never really looked for Info like that, i just knew that mine wasnt that low, i judge quality on the PC at a 1280x1024 Res anyway.

Yeah your right, i dont want this, only got 2gb of rars then changed my mind, i wouldnt mind a proper of this, either that the bitrate is lower than 3000 like you said or that they have used Nero Re-Encode to do it, which as far as i can tell is just an updated DVD Shrink, would prob explain why Scene Transtitions were so bad in this, transcoders are usually bad for that.

Saying that, makes things even worse, they used a transcoder, and downsampled the Movie but not the extras, and while i said some comments were harsh, the video quality does look worse than most KDVD's that ive done which contains 5-6 hours of video and 5.1.

The DVDR scene seems to be going slightly downhill recently, too many New Groups coming and going who place to much importance on coming first.

Now, this is just a technical thing, I haven't seen the quality of this release and I can't comment on it (and from reading other comments I don't want to ever see it). However, I know from experience that the Implementation id that shows up in DVDInfo is just what was used to create the image of the dvd. So say CCAT actually did use CCE to re-encode, but instead of creating an image file with imgtool or something similar, they used nero to create the image (or burned it then created an image from the disc with nero), then nero would show up in the implementation id. It also goes the other way, someone could transcode a movie with dvdshrink, and just have it output a VIDEO_TS folder, then use imgtool to make the image and anyone who checks it in dvdinfo would assume they used CCE and not shrink.

Say they didn't, and used NeroVision Express, part of NERO suite, and shrank it and burned it to disc. Makes more sense from a n00b group.

Yeah, I wasn't trying to defend them, I was just saying that dvdinfo isn't foolproof

Just grabbed a nice Proper from Replica, untouched video and Directors Commentary, looks very sweet, one of the few groups left you can rely on.
