Jesus christ.....4 posts and no one has really said anything about the release yet.....

anyways....The video looks pretty good even with the lower bitrate. The source must look really clean.

Audio: Very good audio throughout...This is the type of movie that would benefit from DTS. But the DD mix in this movie is quite good.

Movie: Great flick...

8/9/9

I know I'm supposed to be rating the release, but I gotta say that the book that the movie Munich is based on - Vengeance by George Jonas is absolutely fantastic.

EDIT: Ok I've watched the release 8/9/8 they didn't stray too much from the book, cut a couple of scenes that were'nt so important...

Video looks neat from sample.

Perhaps not only due to source being good, I believe Replica uses old school tools, filters that are not available on the internet any longer. This could be the reason behind their consistently high-quality re-encodes.

On another point, whats up with this countdown thing I'm hearing about?

Perhaps this is why Match Point hangs the debugger in DVDReMake at the menu . This seems to run fine though.

8/9/? will watch the rest tonight.

The dust filters which only run on older versions of AviSynth are better than anything presently available and that's just one example.

A scene related question related to this release: When selecting to play the movie, a menu asks to play the descriptive audio of regular audio. Seeing that only one option works, why not bypass this menu and go straight to the movie? I do it all the time for dvds that have both WS and FS versions. Or, is this form of editing not allowed in the scene? I did it myself with Remake (Don't let all the red in Remake bother you).

On topic, this release looks very good for 3300k. Much of the movie is low-motion so no surprise there. Audio is plenty satisfactory.

I agree on the previous posts to yours having nothing to do with the release.

The video, I agree, too, is great despite lower bitrate and anyone expecting a better release is just dreaming. Unless, of course, a DVD9 release.

The audio -- Again I agree it's great. I also agree and wish the world I could have seen DTS on this release but I understand with the bitrate and all. I mean, to those who don't know, DTS tracks can take 4-6 times the space on a release that DD5.1 does. One of the last re-endocdes I did had a DD5.1 track that was around 200 MB while the DTS track was over 1 GB, for example.

Movie - Again I agree. VERY great film. I may buy it, if not just for DTS.

I disagree, though, on your 8/9/9 rating.

I would say:

9.5 (considering what they had to work with and do in downsampling, and in comparison to other such releases by other groups) for Video.

10 for Audio (You can't blame them for no DTS, really. Come on, now.

8.5 for movie in my opinion so we're not too far off here.

9.5/10/8.5

I probably will buy this, actually.

in response to above...

My rating of an 8 for video wasnt for the quality they achieved with the lower bitrate...sure, it does look excellent for a 3200k rate...i would agree with your 9.5 with that rating system...but i was just saying for dvd-r releases in general and not really taking into account the length of the movie.

also with the audio, i did not take points off for it NOT being DTS. i was simply stating that DTS for this type of movie would be great. As for the DD mix it does contain..its very good. Again, i have heard better DD mixes.

thats all...just thought u may have misunderstood my ratings and thought i would like to justify them. Overall it was a quality release.

Thats all you can do imo unless you have the source to compare and a test encode.
