Subtitle problem

Video and audio are excellent (8,8 at least) in this release. BUT there is a problem for those who depend upon subtitles (English, in this case)

Instead of an idx/sub set, a ripped .srt set is included. Problem is, about half the titles are missing and many of the rest are wonky, suffer from some extraction error. Many of the multi-line titles are screwed up in a hard-to-describe way. Sort of like this:

oday???
Hello, How are you t

I don't know if releases get nuked for this sort of thing, but trust me, the titles are unusable. We shall have to wait on a re-rip from the dvd, or someone who is prepared to put in a LOT of time repairing them. I do appreciate the effort these folks put in, but can't they take some time to check for quality and accuracy?

!!!!FOLLOWUP!!!!- There is now a good set of very usable titles available, as a separate srt file in the Secretmyth H.264 set. Good news for us HOH (hard of hearing, eh???) annoying types.

Watched about an hour of this. Can't comment on the subtitle issue since I did not install them when I converted with ConvertXtoDVD but I will comment on the Audio and Video:

Audio: 9
Video: 8
Movie: ?

Will comment on the movie when I finish it tonight. This is a nice rip from the standpoint of Audio and Video quality. As to the movie, my initial impression is that the main characters are an odd sad bunch particularly Philip Seymour Hoffman's character. I always expect great things from Mr. Hoffman as I believe him to be one of the great actors of our time. I'd be interested to hear what others think who have watched this in the meantime.

Thanks to the poster. Nice job apart from the subtitle issue referred to above..

Ridiculous. Stupid way to watch a movie. They're to be watched in one sitting not in bits. Your credibility as a reviewer is destroyed.

release looks ok, subs not important to me

let me comment on the movie. this is easily the biggest waste of time and waste of money (saw it in theaters last weekend) ever. way worse than "I heart huckabees". seriously dont even waste your time watching this movie. it doesnt make any sense, it jumps EVERYWHERE and doesnt focus on anything developed for more than 5 minutes before something completely new and different comes up. the movie ends NOWHERE near where it started, if you can even call it an ending. i almost walked out early but i was with other ppl. whereas i greatly enjoyed eternal sunshine of the spotless mind, this movie was a TERRIBLE disappointment

Actually, that won't solve the problem. That "fix" is for some German dialogue later in the movie. The H264 subs I mention above are the solution.

But thanks for the HU anyway.

Interesting point, Dutch, however, I must disagree. I usually do watch movies in one sitting but it was late and I wasn't giving the movie my full attention and therefore a fair shake, which it deserves, hence my statement. I do not think it destroys my credibility. I will finish my review tonight as previously stated.

Respectfully,
DK

Hehe, not so sure you're much better...Here's Roger Ebert on this movie:

I think you have to see Charlie Kaufman's Synecdoche, New York twice. I watched it the first time and knew it was a great film and that I had not mastered it. The second time because I needed to. The third time because I will want to.

Alternatively, Ebert once did a film class in which the students watched La Dolce Vita (I believe it was), frame by frame, over the course of a full term.

I'm not sure there IS a CORRECT way to watch a film, even tho I'm not sure whether you were just kidding around in your first comment.

Watched the entire movie. It's more than a movie, it's an experience. I can't say that I truly understand it all and I will have to watch it at least one or two more times. This movie is not for everyone and I am certainly not qualified to comment on it. You decide.

Anyone else find that there is an overlap between the two parts? Dialogue at the end of cd1 is repeated at the beginning of cd2.

Guys please stick to rule #7.

Yes, but it's an intentional overlap at key-frame repeat, very easily deleted with virtual dub.

v-9 or 10
a-8 or 9
m-8ish

this is a great flick, imbt once again comes through with a top notch encoding of a top notch flick!

charlie kaufman has put out some killer flicks, though they seem to get more abstract and puzzling with each installment - the previous dude who only watched 1/2 the flick & crashed had the right idea - this movie takes some serious concentration, and ebert was dead on about watching it at least 2wice, possible 3rice

philip seymour hoffman sure can play a scattered middle aged wimpy art-phaggish type... takes serious confidence in the manlihood dept. to play such a confused gayish dude in EVERY film he does!

sorry for the rant, but this is a visually spectacular flick, and IMBT did a PERFECT job on it!
