Windows not recognizing new harddrive

i just bought a nice new nifty 250gb drive
(WD ATA)

i installed the drive as a slave,
device manager sees it and reports okey doke
my bios sees it and reports correctly on type and size...

windows (explorer my computer etc.) does not see it
I KNOW i'm forgetting something fundamental which will make me feel foolish but..

NARF!

Assuming you're using XP, you haven't created a partition and formatted it yet.

:EDIT: ...creating a partition and formatting isn't obviously specific to XP but that's the guide I linked to.

Yeah, it doesn't necessarily mean you want to break the physical drive into multiple logical drives. You still have to partition it even if you only create one partition. You then have to format the new partition(s).

Who?

Took like an hour to format my new Seagate, I didn't remember it taking that long when I installed a new one (also 120gb) in my desktop!
