Hi, Im just starting to use news groups and im using the xnews prgram but im only getting a 10kbs speed when downloading headers or decoding files. I am on a cable connection and using a router. Is there any ports i should open to get a faster speed?

STD Free

Might be your ISP. I know plusnet put a cap on port 119 recently so it ran at about 10kb/sec for some users.

News.usenetserver.com or news.giganews.com I usually have a sustained speed of about 350 kb/s they are about $15 and $24 a mos respectively but well worth it.
