Spielberg overdoes his movies, if that makes sense. But he definitly has talent, and I respect him.
Francis Ford Coppola has made some great movies, but he's also made bad ones, such as "Jack" (i think he made that)
Alfred Hitchcock was great, compare his movies to the horror movies of today. The horror movies today are yes, sometimes fun, but it's like, they're so unoriginal in terms of the way they kill people, it seems they're running out of ways to kill people.
If I had to pick the best young living director it would have to be:
Sam Mendes-American Beauty and Road to Perdition, both movies had fantastic cinematography and great performances.
Christopher Nolan-Memento and Insomnia (he directed some others, but I haven't seen them)
