The built in burner reminds me of the old roxio. Looks like all you have to do is drag and drop into the folder.

I saw those two proggies. Thanks pHo.

Does anyone know of a good MP3 player like Winamp, and a good video player like media player classic with .x264 support. For os X?

I haven't checked out any High Def media on here yet, Well I did view a trailor on apple.com, 720p played good, using quick time, I did download a codec for .x264 support for quicktime. But you can't view in fullscreen with quick time that I know of. I never really messed with it. I don't recall having the option for fullscreen with it.

Right now for my shoutcast needs I'm using the Itunes software, Does decent enough, but I want something else if possible.

VLC or mplayer for video, but there's not much choice for mp3 bizarrely. Audion is primarily for PPC so it doesn't run amazingly on intel platforms but its ok.. Realplayer is surprisingly ok but it doesn't have a working visible playlist that you can use, its all done really bizarrely.. a shame.

What the fuck, I have been using RDC with Os X so I can view my Vista box. I just checked the resourses in os x, It was using damn near a gig of ram. How is that possibe? On windows it only uses maybe 10MB's at most. What the fuck is up with this?

RAM usage in OSX is actually done intelligently and the majority of your RAM will be in use at any one time, then redispersed as required. Nothing to worry about.

I know I just started using Os X, but I'm enjoying it. Grant it there isn't as much software, but there is enough. There is more and more support for mac nowaday.

So far I don't really like the Dock, Yeah it looks cool, but not nearly as good as my trusty start menu and app bar from Windows. I've been using Windows for many years now, It's hard to get away from that.

Not enough MP3 players, I want something better than Itunes, It's ok but not great.

Still no matter what, It runs fantastic, I guess the system is suppose to use the ram it has, I'm just not used to that. When a app says it's using damn near a gig of ram, I feel there is a problem.

The Finder isn't nearly as good as Explorer, Again maybe cause i'm not used to it yet, It just feels foriegn.

Add/remove programs? Just drag and drop, It doesn't get rid of everything. I prefer add/remove option like in Windows.

System preference vs. Control Panel, I prefer the Os X, It seems better. Not a lot of shit I'll never use.

The Widgets are much better in Os X than in Vista. M$ fucked that one up.

Safari is a joke.

Biggest qualm with Mac so far is Quicktime, I can understand Quicktime pro for Windows costing Money, But why the fuck would you have to purchase Pro if you buy a mac? That's garbage!!!

I don't know where stuff downloads when it doesn't download to the desktop, When I download a zip file it automatically unzips? I hate that.

I understand a .dmg file it's macs version of exe. but what in the hell is a hqx file?

I feel like a complete noob now, I know NOTHING about how Mac works. I bought a book about Tiger today, Just so I can understand it.

I do like it, It's just taking a lot to get used to it.

Is there much of a difference between Tiger and Leopard? Is it worth the upgrade?

-------------

edit

I just realized I'm using RDC why not use Winamp on my pc? Duh, Wasn't thinking about it to much I guess. At least I have options since I have two pc's.

Everything worth getting (bar games, then just buy an xbox360 as PC Gaming is dead bar about 5 decent exclusive titles a year) is either available on Mac or has an equivalent thats better anyway. (ie MSN/AIM --> Adium)

You'll get used to it. The Applications button is basically your start bar, not really much difference. Control Panel is brought up easily from the Apple Menu anytime, and the ability to mount pretty much anything on the dock itself is great. I have 2 stacks for general downloads and usenet downloads as well as my Apps and Trash, and I keep meaning to make a stack for my most used apps.

Agreed. iTunes is brilliant for mass organisation tho, I have a PC running a 200gb HDD as an iTunes library and the Macbook then connects to this library automatically when I load it (which takes seconds). My wish is for an mp3 player like winamp that I just use to play random songs and new stuff from, rather than library based. I have multiple uses for mp3s therefore I need multiple players. I use Audion for playlisted stuff (a bit slow and clunky) and Realplayer for single files.

If the system feels like its running fine, don't worry about it. Vista isn't much different with its reporting, and the RAM thing you're reading isn't the true usage anyway, thats the virtual usage thing which I ignore all the time.

Its better. Get a proper apple keyboard and start learning all the keyboard shortcuts.

True, but Add/Remove programs leaves a lot of shit behind, and half the time it doesn't work anyway. You can get progs like AppZapper that'll remove things fully, but as each icon is in fact a package and not just an .exe , it does do a decent job.

Yeah, its pretty good. I like it too.

I don't care for them. I use the calculator every so often and thats about it. I just have no need for widgets in general.

Only used it about 5 times. Waste of time.

I don't get you.. quicktime pro is for encoding etc, quicktime for playback etc is free. There's no reason for them to give you QTPro for free.

It shouldn't do. You definitely telling it to save and not open?

Thats incorrect, DMG is a diskimage and is a standard image format for OSX, similar to ISO but used much more commonly amongst normal non-warezy downloads. Its a good system. Can't remember what HQX is if I ever knew.

Tiger is good, some prefer it to Leopard. I haven't decided yet. There's some elements of Leopard now I utterly love. I like stacks which some don't due to the way I work, and Spaces (despite its few problems) is slick. Screen sharing over Bonjour (via iChat) is rad as all hell too.

With Quicktime I tried watching a movie in fullscreen it was a greyed out option, I found out you have to buy quicktime pro to be able to view movies in fullscreen.

I understand VM, I do ignore that because it doesn't matter, What does bother me is the fact it says Real Memory and one program was using damn near a gbit.

I would only get a real mac keyboard if I could get a split keyboard. Haven't seen any.

AppZapper is a cool little program, I like the effects with it. Does a good job to.

I have a weather and gas price widget and both are rather accurate. Only two I use on a daily basis.

Also I know what to do with a .bin file in Windows, But some things you download off of Microsofts site, and others. The files are in .bin. Is there a program to extract em? because there is no .cue with em.

Why can't I get rid of my dektop icons, That sucks. I shouldn't have to download a prgram to that, and camoflauge uses 20mbits and that's garbage.

I decided to not use the second pc for my Winblows box, I decided to set up a Virtual drive for it. it's running great. Much faster than the Celeron did. I thought it would run like crap but it doesn't. I am impressed.

I figured I like certain programs, Like Utorrent, Nero, and a few other apps that aren't on os x. So far Utorrent is working great, Haven't had a chance to use Nero yet, but can't wait to do so.

This is fuckin great.

Its just another compressed archive file type. Just as PC's have .zip .tar .rar etc so there are different compressed files for the Mac. Use Stuffit Expander. It recognises and deals with hqx's straight off the bat.

Nice one Linnets. I might've come across it before, it looks familiar but I can't say for certain. And yeah, I use stuff it, its a natty little app.

utorrent is still looking to come out for mac, but Transmission is fine in the meantime.

Toast Titanium is better than Nero, and in all fairness OSX's inbuilt burning tools (burning images thru Disk Utility or starting a Burn Folder for normal files) is surprisingly good. It's just hard to trust because all Windows' variants were awful at burning.

As for QT, I'm sure I've only ever had standard on here, and it full screens without a problem. Maybe you're on a very old version? I'm grabbing a trailer now to confirm.

(you can pic up older spec mac mini's pretty cheaply, if you're getting into it.. you should pick one up)

edit: yep, quicktime player 7.2.1 fullscreens video using the standard cmd-f .. they added fullscreen into non-pro ages ago i think, run software update and it'll get you the newest one automatically (software update rules btw)

Downloaded stuffit expander, Installed it, haven't tried it yet.

When I try and use Transmission if I am u/d at any rate say down/5k and up/5k I can't surf the web at all. Still can't, I installed Utorrent on my Virtual machine and I can down/upload no problem.

I have QT 7.1.3 so it should be fine. Maybe it was the format I was trying to play, Don't know, Will try a trailer and see what happens.

As far updates go I'll pass, I read numerous times if I try and update this, It won't boot. Rememinds me of Windows. lol.

Yeah I have seen some cheap Imac's, Mac Mini's aren't badly priced either. For right now my AMD64 3500+ 1.5gb/ram runs perfect. I won't upgrade this pc at all. Because why? It all works perfect. lol.

After all this I realize I do have an old version, I hate being deslixic, I get shit mixed up at times, I thought my version was newer. Oh well, Will update this. Thanks pHo.

I thought about upgrading the kernal, and all, but i decided, Why fuck with it? Everything on here works and works good. There is no need for it. I don't like QT anyway. Who cares. I'm going to leave it the way it is. I will install Leo eventually, After the bugs are worked out. I'm happy with what I got. So fuck it.

Since Sunday is MY day, to do with it with whatever the fuck I want, I did exactly that. I set up a Vmachine up with Freespire 2.0 and it's not bad. Also found another mp3 player for Os X, It's OK, Sounds better than Itunes. I guess it's been discontinued, It's called Macamp lite X. Does the trick. It's decent enough.

Yeah this setup really does rock. I love it.

After searching and searching for an mp3 player that I like for Os X I finally found one, It doesn't have much compatability yet, Mainly Mp3, Ogg, and streaming audio.

The only two that I use on a day to day basis is MP3 and Streaming audio, I use Streaming audio from shoutcast 24/7 so it's crucial that I have that support. The program I found is called "Whamb" I'm enjoying it a lot.

There are other mp3 players for Ituens such as Macamp Lite X which is Ok.

Here is a link to some really decent mac apps that I have came across, Also has a link to Whamb.

Well Hope someone gets some use of this site.

I've been running Mac os x for about 2 months now. I don't care for it.

1. Navigation sucks with it. I can't stand the Dock.
2. Not enough software support.
----
There are some things I like about it, but I am thinking of going back to windows.
