I am curious as to what your idea of perfection is. Did you notice the audio problem with the people on the phones? Other than that it was a decent VHS rip like I stated before. My opinion is the group should've noted the audio problem in their nfo OR reripped it if it was an encoding problem.

The fat guy

video is pretty damn nice. i noticed at the fox logo that it was cropped a little, but upon watching the movie, i didnt feel like i was missing anything.

about the audio:

i extraced the mpeg's with isobuster and watched those. the audio was perfect, i didn't know what everyone was talking about.

then i tried to re-encode to ntsc (with several programs)...now i experienced what u guys were talking about...the guy in the booth's voice was VERY low and garble, but the 'sniper' voice was clear.

i have no idea if either of my dvd players can play PAL vcd's, because i've always re-encoded any pal videos i get into ntsc, so i guess this will be the guinne pig.

i have an idea as how to get correct audio in ntsc (if my player isn't PAL-compatable...im going to use an audio recorder and record the Stereo Mix of my sound card...in essence, playing the video and recording the sound coming from my audio card..and dubbing that onto an ntsc re-encode.

i'll post back with results.

as for the PAL:
6/8/10

Awesome Movie

The fat guy

interesting results.

ok, so i figured i'd go ahead and burn the PAL.

sever interesting things happened.

1. Nero saw the video as 77 minutes (i joined the 2 mpeg's). However when the Write CD dialogue box came up, it now said the cd was 88 minutes, so i burned anyways. At about 96% done burning, the burn failed. i tried it anyways.

Playing the VCD:

2. it worked. So my player can play PAL. The audio was fine, so problems with the phone calls being garbled on one end.

3. on the computer, the 1st part ends at exactly 39 minutes. According to my dvd player, that scene is at 44:13

4. nearing the end of the movie, i was hoping that at least the movie worked properly. here's what happened. the narrator/caller said his end monologue, and the CGI kicked in, zooming through the phone, and out into space. it crashed here, not showing the stars, satellite or credits....Crash!

so whatever, i miss like 30 seconds at the end. i can live with it.

i still may try the real-time audio ripping theory tho.

The video: was nice I give it a 8, the croping didnt bother me
The audio: when I first tried playing it through my reciever with optical cable the sound of colin farrell was low and muted like someone said before and it forced me to turn my volume up, then I tried playing it with just the tv speakers from the regular red and white audio cables hooked in and no reciever and I thought it sounded alot better so I watched it that way. I give audio a 8
Overall a great release

Just finished watching the movie.

The movie itself is ok.. i give it a 6/10.

the video was great for a VCD. I re-encoded it to NTSC and
joined the two files together to fit on a single CD.

the audio was decent.. some pops here and there, and the
voices were a little low, but nothing the volume button on my
remote control couldn't fix.

So:

Video : 7.0 - since the source was VHS, they could have done a better job, however still nice to get a nice watchable release.

Audio : 7 - cracks and pops were frequent enough to be annoying
and the low voice volume.

Thumbs down

While the picture looks fairly sharp and the sound isn't too bad, the fact that the entire picture is crammed into a little box is dis-heartening. I get the idea that half or close to half of the picture is missing. I could be wrong but if you have to cut off half of the picture to get rid of a few subs then you ought to leave the subs.
They don't really hurt the film any. Anyway, that is my 2 cents worth.

For all those people who can't understand the audio, are you guys using Apex DVD players? The discs work perfectly in my Marantz DVD player and on my computer, but I get that same low buzzy voice for the characters in the foreground when i put it in my Apex AD-1200.

I used daemon-tools (mounted the straight from the *.bin and playback with PowerDVD/WMP), Apex-Ad5131 and Pioneer DV-434... Maybe my DVD Players are broken?

Motherfucker!

I've notice some complaints about the audio, but on both this rls and the telesync, I had problems with the audio big time. On both rls, played through my stand alone dvd player and Kenwood receiver, the audio goes back and forth between center and left/right chans, and seems to cut in and out. Both rls did it, which makes me wonder, and the only way I've have found to fix this is re-encode it. Has anyone had this problem besides me?

before re-encode:

8/4/?

After:

8/8/?

No point in discussing the good picture quality since it's already been done to death here. As for this audio "problem", some people in this thread made me DREAD watching this release, to them I ask, are you crazy?! I sat through the god awful esoteric release with its near black and white picture, blockiness, sound pops, and hollowey nearly inaudible dialogue, and people are actually gonna bitch that you have to play with your volume like 3 times during the course of this screener? Yeah sure it shouldnt rise and drop like that, but I don't remember being turned off of the esoteric release as much as this one, in fact, if i remember correctly, people were giving mad props just cuz it was early. Well, the movie only came out 3 days ago here in theaters, and we got a screener. Chill out, or pay the $12.50
People who want to watch this release, ignore these sound issue freakouts and check it for yourself, it's a good release. Also, I watched it in my Apex with zero problems, never heard any pops as someone else mentioned, and it didnt crap out just before the end credits.

8/8/9

The only people who have problems are people with more then 2 speakers or surround sound ....... All you have to do is drop the sound to 2speakers instead of 4 or 5.1 and the sound problem will be fixed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Your making assumptions which are dead wrong...thats not true at all. I have played this on 2 sets and neither have surround and neither gets the full sound so rethink your position and try to come up with a better excuse

Let me rephrase it then..... I am using surround sound, 5.1 settings in Power DVD...I could not hear the sounds around the streets of NY in the movie, only the telephone calls were loud and clear....By switching the settings in Power DVD to 2 speakers, dolby compatible all the sounds worked perfect...now as for standalones DVD players i dont know..

I'm playing this on my apex 1500 and have been having the same problem (lower voice on main character). I found that by pressing the l/r button on my remote and switching the audio from stereo to either left or right, it makes the audio much more level.

Maybe something to do with the pal conversion makes it play better in mono than stereo?

Cool

Ah movies in the same setting for the entire time usually don't impress me...... The same goes for this one.

The picture quality was ok a little fuzzy and blue

The sound was not bad a little more loud for one of the characters.

A definite "Watchable" movie
