Secret Window *NTSC* - DVDRIP - Centropy
After watching this, I am not sure what to think. The NFO says untouched video and keeps all the audio tracks. The movie is only 3.4 gigs with all the language tracks (2x 5.1 and 1x 2.0) on it. So assuming this really is untouched video, I give:
Video 10/10 - Compared to the retail, this is 1:1. Can't improve on video over the retail/untouched.
DVD-R 7/10 - I would have kept a featurette or two instead of some of the trailers I've seen 100 times already and the useless 2.0 English and 5.1 French tracks... That is approx 850 megs of useless data. Getting lazy.
Now for my review of the "untouched" video. I watched this movie without even looking at the VOBs. While watching, I found the video pretty blurry and crappy. Within 10 mins I turned on the info to check the bitrates and we're in the high 2s low 4s on average. For a retail untouched video this is pretty shitty for a 97 min movie. After watching the whole movie, I looked at the Secret Window trailer (included on the DVD) and it was 10x better picture quality than the actual movie. If I paid for this, I would be pissed. But the video is bad for untouched. However, if it really is untouched, then Centropy couldn't have done anything to improve it, but out of curiosity I will rent it to see if the movie VOBs are really that small, especially since there are only approx 1.5-2 gigs of extras missing (couple featurettes and a few trailers).
I have a small feeling the movie was downsampled. I can't prove it until I can rent it, but it is just a hunch. Only thing that would make sense is if the fullscreen version is on the disc also and not mentioned that it was ripped in the NFO. Without the French and 2.0 english, this release would be probably an even 3gigs.
