Man, if only you knew where these DVD screeners come from then you'd understand. There is no encoding possibilities. DVD screeners no longer come on easy to rip standard DVDs, they come on special discs that can only be played on special players. The only way to even get the video is to copy them directly onto a standard DVD-recorder (standalone real-time recorder). Since it is a standalone recorder, it is usually like a CBR 4mbit/sec interlaced recording (like Finding Neverland and a few/lot other that came out this year). It is part of the MPAA cut down on spreading screeners through the scene. With the Oscards coming up, this was such a problem that they were going to cut them all together until this solution came out (of making the special players).
::EDIT:: There are better standalone recorders they could have used. Team America was good and so was The Incredibles, but most of the rest of the DVDScrs have been like this one. But this all costs $$$
Now, if you wish, please feel free to watch the telesync until your *proper* comes out (which will most likely be a R3 or R1 retail). Until then, enjoy what's out, or start your own group (which is of course super welcome as we need more of them )
People sure do bitch alot though lately on the quality. It's free and WAY ahead of retail release dates (think this one's still in theaters).
Here is a link (from another post a while back (from Finding Neverland thread) which will explain it yet again): http://www.mpeg-playcenter.com/kiss...theres_more.htm
ONE other suggestion if you do not like interlaced video. Use PowerDVD with hardware acceleration and auto deinterlacing feature. It doesn't look great, but it's much better than without it. You can do TV out and the picture will look great. And on a 27" I'm sure it will look more than good enough.
If the dvd unit has component out.. and s/pdif (or TOSLINK). There are much more viable solutions.. But, I understand people are not made out of money.
I am disappointed that the stand alone dvd-recorder can not record in progressive.. Or, maybe it can and the gayed up player does not give progressive output.
Now, the dvd player I used to playback STILL played it back interlaced.. But, maybe because it is a piece of shit. A good progressive scan dvdplayer SHOULD be able to playback progressive.
But, still a pain non theless for simple 'progressive scan' dvd players that just bypass the pulldown.
Oh, and about the Incredibles.. I am sure it was from a real DVD. The dvdscr Pixar sent out for the Annies was a regular dvd. ..but maybe that was not the source.
Anyway, thanks for letting me know. =)
