And CCE and Avisynth are pretty easy to use anyway, i think its more speed rather than lack of knowledge.
My confession of the day, I used to not know what to do with interlacing also. But then I found (separate from the Doom 9 CCE guides) a decomb article on Doom 9 a while ago:

It's dirt simple, and you don't even need any of those switches listed in the link (hehe, hopefully someone from Corrupt is reading this... Doubtful, but you never know ).
That's what I do for de-interlacing, if there are better way, please let me know. Learning is good. But this method worked great for my last 50 (approx) encodes so far.
IMO, I think this release goes down to knowledge over speed. I could have re-encoded this movie 10-15 times between all the propers.
BUT, if this is the source that's screwed up/protected, I wonder what they could have done different in the retail encode to make it "un-encodable". Hmm...
